Hilary Duff joins the long list of celebrities supporting the ongoing Hollywood actors’ strike, appearing on the picket line to protest against the big studios in order to get changes in their contracts, better working conditions, fairer pay, and regulations on the use of artificial intelligence on the image of the actors.
The actress behind the iconic Disney Channel series Lizzie McGuire paid tribute to the character that made her famous by singing one of the franchise’s most popular songs, What Dreams Are Made Of, the main song of The Lizzie McGuire Movie, another huge event within the story of the House of Mouse (via Deadline on Instagram):
Currently, Duff is part of the cast of How I Met Your Father, a series set in the same universe as How I Met Your Mother where she plays the main character, Sophie Tompkins. The series focuses on the experiences of Sophie and her friends in Manhattan, who, like in the original series, search for love, enjoy their friendship, life in the city and face the difficulties of adult life.
How I Met Your Father may soon become one of the big productions affected by the strikes, as despite not having been renewed for a third installment yet, if it gets the green light for new episodes it will take a while for the show to get going while the crisis in Hollywood continues.
What Happened to the Lizzie McGuire Revival?
As part of a long wave of projects that were going to bring back great classics, as Disney was already doing with its animated films and its new live-action adaptations, Lizzie McGuire was planning a continuation of the original series as a revival.
Duff was looking to do something similar to what Paramount+ did with iCarly, which, far from aiming for the same youthful tone as the original show, the revival took advantage of the growth of Miranda Cosgrove and the leads, as well as the audience that was a fan of the Nickelodeon series when it premiered, to present a more adult story with conflicts that could connect the new Carly with the same fans as before. Something that the streaming platform is also looking to do with the Zoey 101 movie.
However, the return of the girl with the golden hair and her small animated version was finally canceled because the story moved away from the familiar tone that the original had. While the actress wanted to show the problems that a Lizzie already in her 30s would be going through with her own family, work conflicts and so on, Disney was looking to do something similar to what had already been done.
Soon, another of the great stars of the House of Mouse from that same era will also return in the sequel to another undisputed classic. Lindsay Lohan, along with Jamie Lee Curtis, will star in the sequel to Freaky Friday, one of the films that made the actress from The Parent Trap an emblem within Disney as Duff was too.
