H&M Home is launching a collection with India Mahdavi and it’s a godsend for maximalist lovers

The H&M Home x India Mahdavi collection launches this Thursday 28 April and we couldn’t be more excited.

For those who aren’t familiar, India Mahdavi is an Iranian-French architect and interior designer with – by her own description – a focus on developing creations through “a vision of happiness and colour.” Based in Paris, France (though she initially studied at New York’s Parsons school of design), India’s work is everything a social media interiors obsessive could dream of, and her two Rue Las Cases showrooms (as well as a third on a perpendicular street) are a glorious sight to behold. Indeed, back in 2000 after working as artistic director for Christian Liaigre, The New Yorker even named her the “virtuoso of colour”; we couldn’t agree more.

If, after perusing all her curvy interiors creations, India’s work feels somewhat familiar to you, you might not be surprised to discover that she was the artistic brain behind the iconic pink room at London’s Sketch restaurant. Yep, if you’ve visited those oh-so-‘grammable pod toilets then chances are you’ve sipped tea in the very pink velvet textile seats chosen by India back in 2014. Now, in 2022, she’s also been leading the way in the restaurant’s redesign, with their all-new yellow room being revealed just last month.

Elsewhere, India – who was born in Tehran, Iran – has worked on the likes of Tokyo’s Ladurée tea salon, Red Valentino’s Sloane Street branch in London and the 2009 renovation at Monaco’s luxe Le Monte-Carlo beach hotel, to name a few of her 30+ international collaborations.

While India’s work usually fetches (on her online Petits Objets shop) for quite the price tag, this new polychrome collection with H&M Home gives interiors fanatics a one-stop-shop chance to access the homeware and furniture designer’s pieces on a much more modest budget. The pieces – including a stoneware mug  and a luxury merino wool rug that your living room is simply gasping for – range from £12.99 to £249.99 and, speaking about this price point to Architectural Digest herself, India claimed the collection would “[abolish] borders” to the luxury market.

Our favourite pieces? It has to be the ceramics; from the floral patterned earthenware to the glazed gingham-style jug, we aren’t lying when we tell you we’re going to be checking out everything in this collection come the 28th when it launches. We’re huge fans of Los Angeles TikToker/Instagrammer and all-round social media extraordinaire Camilla Lenore (if you don’t know, then get to know) and, if you are too, then get shopping India’s collection ASAP. La belle maison…pending.
