Holidays bounce back despite ongoing travel chaos as Britons head for the Med

Holidaymakers are flooding into southern Europe despite ongoing travel chaos, according to Hostelworld.

The hostel, hotel and bed and breakfast platform said bookings in southern Europe were back above pre-pandemic levels in the six months to June 30.

Hostelworld also said visits across the whole of Europe from the US and Canada are back above pre-Covid levels.

Hostel, hotel and bed and breakfast platform Hostelworld said bookings in southern Europe were back above pre-pandemic levels

The influx of North American tourists and southern Europe’s booming popularity helped the company bounce back from Covid.

Overall bookings hit 80pc of pre-pandemic levels in the first half of the year.

And after accounting for higher booking values, revenue was 4 per cent up on the same period in 2019.

Gary Morrison, chief executive of Hostelworld – which works across 180 countries – said the travel market is returning despite recent disruption.
