The Covid-19 waves have been a challenge for us but in many ways they have been an opportunity like our outdoor spaces used to be a place to admire and enjoy but now they are genuinely used for the best purposes i.e. relaxing, taking in the weather, hosting family events, enjoying ourselves throughout the year, etc. Any season is a wonderful time for outdoor living as it can be a fun, fresh experience to come home to your own cosy space in the backyard or an extension of the indoors into the outdoors.
Outdoor living has become a trend these past two years and now people are more into outdoor spaces apart from focusing more on developing their own workspace, house, personal room or garden. In an interview with HT Lifestyle, Rajiv Sethi, Founder and Director of Woodcraft International, shared, “Woven lanterns, rattan furniture, terracotta pots, indoor rug, dinnerware and planters are a few of the beautiful additions to building an impressive outdoor space. Lights play a vital role in enhancing the beauty of the outdoors. Adding lights or lanterns that hang from trees for a warm glow after the sun goes down offers a delight to the eyes.”
Talking about how some have adapted the concept of an open space kitchen with organic farming while some people are completely living off-grids to experience nature, Rajiv Sethi said, “Container gardens are one of the best outdoor living trends anyone can adapt to, especially if you have restricted space. Moreover, you can also convert your outdoor space into your workspace by adding a table and chair along with some plants. Working in an open area will save you from a monotonous life as well. Trends may change with time but the love for outdoor spaces or you can say living will remain unchanged. Exploring nature is adventurous and after a pandemic, no one wants to waste their lives.”
Suggesting a list of many ways to update your outdoor space and make it feel more like a home than a yard, Namitha Chiluveru, Director at 360Life, recommended:
1. Updating furniture and adding versatile pieces with multiple uses is a wise choice to make the outside spaces appear active.
2. In order to counteract the gloomy atmosphere, colour blocking can be a fantastic solution that will improve the mood of the outdoor places.
3. One can preserve colour blocking by using a slimline heater and pairing colourful pillows with neutral-coloured couches
4. Fire pits are another excellent addition since they provide a soft glow, quiet crackle and subtle warmth. Satellite kitchens facilitate food preparation and provide an element of outdoor cooking.
5. Your outdoor living experience can be improved by adding luxuries like TV screens for movie nights and cosy lighting.
