More than 110,000 older trucks may be affected in the U.S., and the NHTSA says Honda may offer to buy them back

Honda is recalling 112,060 Honda Ridgelines in the U.S., the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said late June. The pickups are being recalled due to potential frame corrosion that can cause a fuel leak, which can increase the risk of a fire.

The affected vehicles include 2006 to 2014 Ridgeline pickups, but specifically those sold or registered in Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Washington D.C., and Wisconsin.
The report claims that an accumulation of road salt can cause the frame mounting surface to erode where the fuel tank mounting bands are attached. The corrosion can lead to the fuel tank detaching, which in turn can lead to a fuel leak.

Owners can take their vehicles to the dealer to be inspected, where the rear frame can be repaired, free of charge — or Honda may offer to repurchase the vehicle, according to NHTSA. Owners are expected to be notified by mail beginning in August.
Transport Canada doesn’t currently have any updated information about this recall affecting Canadian vehicles, but you can check online using your VIN to find out if your car is covered by a recall campaign.
