Hotel inspector reveals 3 pieces of ‘super germy’ room furniture she can’t stand

A HOTEL inspector has revealed which beds guests should always avoid sleeping in whenever they travel.

There are some spots in hotel rooms that are well-known to be germ traps, with coffee cups and carpets high up on the list.

However, someone whose job it is to assess whether or not hotels are cleaning their rooms properly has said that some beds are often dirtier than others.

It turns out that sofa beds are often neglected by cleaning staff, who focus their attentions on the main beds instead.

Therefore she always tries to avoid them if possible.

The same can be said for decorative pillows on hotel beds, which are also low down the priority list for hotel cleaners.

The details were revealed by an inspector who anonymously was shadowed at work by Stuff NZ.

They wrote about the inspector: “She’s ‘not a fan’ of sleeper sofas, which may not be as thoroughly cleaned as other pieces of furniture.”

Other things that often aren’t cleaned well are: “In-room glasses and mugs, which housekeeping may or may not run through the dishwasher; or decorative pillows.

“‘I don’t like them,’ she said. ‘They are super germy’.”

The inspector’s assertion about hotel sofas was backed up by Reader’s Digest, who also recommended avoiding it.

They wrote: “Think of it as one giant decorative throw pillow that may have a lot of direct contact with germy things if guests throw their luggage atop it or other items that have accumulated dirt and grime.”

The inspector isn’t the only hotel worker to have shown where the germs can be found in hotel rooms.

Hotel worker Evangeline (@queenevangeline25) pointed out the three main parts of a hotel room that she avoids a a guest, in a video on Tiktok.

Firstly, she dodges the TV remote, which is handled by just about every guest who stays in the room.

Next on her list of things to avoid are the glasses in the hotel room, which Evangeline also said don’t get cleaned as thoroughly as she would like.

Finally, the item Evangeline gives the widest berth is the bedspread, which she claims can sometimes be washed only once a year.

She explained “If it’s an actual bedspread, those things get cleaned maybe once a year. Don’t sit on those.”
