Hotel Room Service Is More Popular Than Ever Right Now

Nothing says you’re on vacation like enjoying a decadent meal in the comfort of your hotel room.

Not only is the demand for in-room dining on the rise at hotels around the world, but according to a new Room Service Report conducted by Hotels.com, hotels are going above and beyond the traditional room service menu.

“Room service holds a special place in the hearts of hotel guests,” Hotels.com spokesperson Melanie Fish said in a statement Tuesday.

At The Milestone Hotel in London, guests are now offered the chance to experience a world class musical performance by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in the comfort of their hotel room when they book a suite starting at $1,500 per night. The performance costs an additional fee.

At Ashford Castle in Ireland, travelers can now request a Lego butler and pick from a selection of Lego sets that will be delivered on a silver tray that will be delivered straight to their room. The lego butler costs an additional €40 fee.

At the five star Il Salviatino in Florence, Italy, guests can request a bath filled with prosecco, spumante or champagne in what the hotel is calling the “bubble bath experience” as part of two night packages starting at €8,000 all in.

In April, Hotels.com says they surveyed a total of 473hotels offering room service at properties across the U.S., U.K., France, Canada, Mexico, South Korea, Japan, Norway, Sweden and Denmark. In addition to these over the top offerings, the study also included some of travelers more unusual room service requests from melted ice cream and blowfish to a raw fish caught by a traveler who wanted it cooked to order.

When it comes to the most popular room service order, the study found that hamburgers are the most universally requested dining option at hotels around the world. While 27% of U.S. hotels said their guests will go “all-out” while ordering in, guests will spend an average $100 for room service.

If you’re planning a trip and looking to get some free room service this summer, starting June 12, Hotels.com is offering guests a chance to win $100 toward an indulgent in room meal.

“Whether it’s a treat-yourself moment or must-have after a long day of sightseeing, there’s a certain satisfaction in having someone else foot the bill,” Melanie Fish said. “That’s why we’re covering up to $30,000 in room service bills this summer, so guests can go all-in on their favorite in-room experience.”
