Aussie actor Milly Alcock has opened up about one of the most confronting scenes from House of the Dragon.
The new Game of Thrones spinoff premiered on Binge last month and the latest episode, which aired in Australia on Monday, has left some viewers speechless after teen Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen (Milly Alcock) and her uncle Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) have an incestuous make-out session in a brothel.
There’s also another intimate scene involving Rhaenyra and a sex scene with King Viserys (Paddy Considine) and his wife Alicent (Emily Carey).
So now we know what Smith meant when he told Rolling Stone there was “too much” sex on the show.
While the scene may have been considered awkward to film, Alcock said she felt “quite comfortable”.
“[Matt Smith and I] were just kind of mates. So, it was quite comfortable,” Alcock said about filming the scene with the former Doctor Who actor.
“We had an intimacy coordinator, and we worked with her through the rehearsal process and blocked it out months before.
Alcock added: “Clare Kilner, our director, made sure that we hadn’t seen any of the brothel stuff until we were shooting.”
“So, that was our first time walking through the brothel, and he’s guiding her through the room with all of these other bodies. So, that was quite shocking. You’re like, ‘This is kind of weird and silly.’
“There were extras who we had just met who were like, 69-ing for 12 hours,” Alcock continued.
“It’s pretty gnarly. We felt pretty overdressed, because everyone else was nude.”
Almost immediately after the episode ended, #Daemyra — a mash-up of Daemon and Rhaenyra’s names — started trending on Twitter.
Alcock previous told PerthNow about the first time she felt like she’d fully become Rhaenyra — and it all came down to the hair; she shares the ice-blonde Targaryen locks made famous by Emilia Clarke’s Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones.
“It was all in the wig,” she said.
“It’s like a Targaryen rite of passage maybe but I felt like that (moment) was the first time I realised that I was actually going to do this show.”
