Honkai Star Rail is an upcoming free-to-play RPG from HoYoverse, the studio behind Genshin Impact. Naturally, the two games have certain similarities, which will seem very familiar with Genshin vets. Still, you might be wondering about all the resources you’d end up earning. Here’s our guide to help explain how currencies work in Honkai Star Rail.
Note: We’ll have a Honkai Star Rail guides and features hub once the game has officially released, so stay tuned.
How currencies work in Honkai Star Rail
There are several Honkai Star Rail currencies used in regular gameplay, as well as gacha mechanics. For reference, we’ll also use terms that Genshin Impact players will be familiar with:
- Credits (Mora) – Basically, this is your gold, used to buy items from NPCs or upgrade characters/weapons.
- Materials (XP booklets and weapon/character ascension) – Although the terms used are different, these refer to items that are used to boost your character’s level (XP booklets), ascension tiers (trace materials), and Light Cones (weapon ascension).
- Eidolons (Constellations) – This is still the same constellation mechanic whereby characters gain upgraded perks and passives if you get duplicates from pulls or other means. The only exception here is the main character, who receives their Eidolons from quest progression.
- Stellar Jade (Primogems) – This is the basic Honkai Star Rail currency used for Wishes (also known as Warps in this game). These are obtained from quests, events, and progression.
- Oneiric Shard (Genesis Crystals) – Should you run out of Stellar Jade, then this is the currency you purchase with real money. This has a 1:1 ratio when converted to Stellar Jade.
- Undying Starlight/Embers (Masterless Stardust/Starglitter) – These refer to currencies earned if you receive duplicates when wishing. They can then be used to purchase items from the shop.
- Star Rail Pass and Star Rail Special Pass (Acquaint/Intertwined Fate) – These are also related to wishes, as they’re used to get extra pulls from gacha banners. The Star Rail Pass is for the starter and permanent banners, whereas the Star Rail Special Pass is for the limited-time event banners (i.e., 5-star characters or Light Cones/weapons).
