One is his former side Barcelona who dreams of a fairytale reunion. However, with the side still constrained by financial limitations, the move slowly became unreasonable for both parties.
Another offer that he had in hand was from middle-east with the Saudi Pro League side Al-hilal interested in making him the highest-paid athlete in the world with a salary offered close to €500 million.
But rejecting all such, he has now accepted a proposal from an MLS side owned by former Manchester United and England legend David Beckham’s Inter Miami.
The move will reportedly see him earning a wage close to €50 million. It is way less than the rumored Saudi offer however with some other added perks alongside the wage, it looks jaw-dropping.
Messi will reportedly receive a share of all Messi-based merchandises Adidas sells after he joins the MLS club while a part of the revenue generated by Apple’s MLS streaming will also be acquired by him.
Not only that there are rumors that a future stake in the MLS side will also be presented to Mesi once he hangs up his boots, making the deal a truly lucrative one for the former Barcelona man.
However, the real gainer from this deal appears to be none other than David Beckham, but how?
Beckham’s ownership of Inter Miami was reached in 2014 when the former England international exercised his option of investing in an MLS franchise that was offered to him during his tenure as an MLS player for LA Galaxy. Beckham apparently invested around €23 million in Inter Miami.
The MLS side made its debut in 2020. Although their on-field performance has been terrible, to say the least, Beckham’s earnings, however, have not stopped.
As per some reports, the 48-year-old has already earned as much as €238 million with the MLS side and his club is currently valued at around €600 million mark.
Now with Messi’s arrival, the MLS side’s valuation is likely to touch the €1billion mark with more global appeal and brand endorsements, making this transfer an indeed game-changer for Beckham as well as the United States football arena.
