Whilst snooker players such as Ronnie O’Sullivan and Mark Selby are undoubtedly the stars of the show, the game would not be possible without the tireless dedication and commitment from referees.

The men and women in charge must ensure that the rules of the game are enforced at all times under the extreme pressure of millions of fans watching back home on TV.

And is not just the regulations that need adhering to, with referees forced to step in when altercations arise between players – or even in the event of a table invasion by protesters.

So, how much do snooker referees get paid? Let’s take a look at their earnings.

How much money do snooker referees earn?

As you’d expect, the amount of money a snooker referee earns depends on the level of competition they are officiating.

At entry-level, a typical snooker referee can expect to be paid somewhere between £35 and £70 for taking charge of a game.

At the other end of the scale, World Snooker professional referees start with a base salary of around £20,000 per season.

However, the best of the best such as Paul Collier, Marcel Eckardt and Olivier Marteel will likely receive a significantly higher base rate.

On top of this, referees will receive an individual match fee for every clash they take charge of.

This can be as much as £500, and so over a course of a long tournament such as the World Championship, referees are paid handsomely for their efforts.

World Snooker also cover travel, food and accommodation expenses across the course of the biggest tournaments.

Some officials decide to officiate snooker matches as their full-time job, whilst others have secondary professions to boost their income.
