Ahead of the start of the West Indies tour, Indian cricket team met the legendary cricketer Sir Garfield Sobers in Barbados. BCCI tweeted the video of the Indian players meeting the 86-year-old West Indian legend and his wife at the Kensington Oval. In that video, many Indian players including skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were seen walking up meet the former West Indian all-rounder.

In that same video, coach Rahul Dravid was seen introducing Shubman Gill to Sir Garfield Sobers as “one of our most most and exciting batsman.” The month-long India-West Indies series comprising 2 Tests, 3 ODIs, and 5 T20Is is scheduled to take place from July 12 to August 13.

“In Barbados & in the company of greatness! #TeamIndia meet one of the greatest of the game – Sir Garfield Sobers,” BCCI tweeted.

India will kick off the West Indies series with a two-match Test series, the first of which will be played from July 12 to 16 at the Windsor Park Sports Stadium, Dominica. The first ODI will be played on July 27 at the Kensington Oval, Barbado. After the ODI series, the two teams will lock horns for a five-match T20I series. The Indian squad for the T20 matches will be announced later. The ODI series is important as as it would help the Indian think tank assess where they stand in white-ball cricket ahead of the ODI World Cup, which will be held in India later this year. But West Indies will not be part of the ICC World Cup after failing in the qualifying matches.

Cricketing genius Sir Garfield Sobers has scored 8032 runs in 93 matches with an average of 57.78. He has bagged 26 centuries in his test career. In this year’s IPL season, Shubman Gill, playing for Gujarat Titans, won the IPL 2023 Orange Cap after scoring 890 runs in 17 matches.
