Snow is expected across the UK from Christmas Day until the new year – a prime time for travelling to see friends and family. If you’re heading out in your car during snowy weather, it’s vital that you make some small changes to your usual driving habits.
Before heading off, make sure to plan your journey thoroughly by checking the weather forecast and the traffic.
If you can move your schedule around to avoid driving in a blizzard, then that’s probably the best solution.
You should also make sure to leave yourself plenty of time to get to your destination if it’s snowing.
It’s always better to driver slower in snow or ice, because you’re far more likely to start slipping and sliding.

2. Avoid moving off in first gear, as it increases the risk of wheel slip.

5. Change into a low gear whenever you’re going downhill, and try to avoid braking unnecessarily.
