How to get on BREWERY duty and help crack the case

Calling all beer lovers, bloggers, and enthusiasts — you are being summoned.

Aussie comedian Merrick Watts, known for sampling beverages as part of stand-up comedy shows and his love for pairing white wine with chicken Twisties, is calling on West Aussies to help him better Australian beer by registering for Brewery Duty.

By putting beer on trial, beer lovers can give feedback to help develop or tweak beers and enjoy some ice-cold ones whilst doing it, explained Watts, best known for radio works as part of the comedy duo Merrick and Rosso with Tim Ross.

“If you’re a self-confessed zythophile (a person who loves beer) like yours truly then we need your help putting brew on trial for the betterment of Aussie beer,” Watts said.

“Sipping on liquid gold and adjudicating over its refreshing deliciousness is a big responsibility, but the nation needs your dutiful, law-abiding taste buds and your expert verdict.”

According to a Pure Profile study, 13 per cent of Australians would rather give up sex for a year than do jury duty, and more than 20 per cent of the nation would prefer to give up chocolate for a year if it meant they didn’t have to carry out jury service.

Thankfully, Brewery Duty is not a conventional trial, and participants are free to carry out their service from the convenience of their home.

“Brewery Duty is a summons all beer lovers want,” Watts said.

“You’ll hear no excuses from this guy — sounds like a winning case to me!”

The initiative was started by Lion, a beverage company headquartered in Sydney, Australia, with origins dating back more than 180 years. Lion is known for its commitment to quality, craftsmanship, community and sustainability, and recently became Australasia’s first large-scale carbon-neutral brewer.
