Scenes in House of Gucci were filmed at Villa Balbiano on the glamorous shores of Lake Como.

Dressed in a skin-tight appropriately blood-colored ski suit, Lady Gaga (playing Patrizia Reggiani) is a vision against a backdrop of thick snow and an Alpine resort in the recently released House of Gucci film. Throughout the movie, the filming locations across Italy are as ravishing as the actors’ high-end fashion. From the swish shopping arcade Galleria Vittorio Emanuele in Milan to the gorgeous lakeside Villa Balbiano, following in the footsteps of director Ridley Scott’s cast makes for an ultra-chic mini-break in Italy.
Haute-Couture Shopping In Milan
Although the real Gucci empire was born a century ago in Florence, part of the House of Gucci movie plot plays out in Italy’s fashion capital Milan, instead. The climax of the story is the dramatic assassination scene, which also gives viewers a glimpse of the northern Italian city’s shopping highlights. The glittering Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, designed in 1861, is home to some of the oldest shops and restaurants in Milan, including hat shop Borsalino and bar Camparino, as well as big names like Prada, Louis Vuitton and, of course, Gucci.
Historic shops and high end fashion outlets can be found in Milan’s Galleria Vittorio Emanuele.

Via Santo Spirito is also famed for its fashion boutiques as well as restaurant Il Salumaio, which features in the movie. Established in 1957, the eaterie is one of the city’s most popular dining spots with a beautiful mosaic-floored courtyard and gourmet menu.
Another Milanese location is Villa Necchi-Campiglio, which doubles as Rudolfo Gucci’s home in the film. The residence was built in 1935 and it is now open to the public as a museum. It was designed especially for social entertaining, so it has an impressive dining room, smoking room, library and grand salon.
Suit Up For Ski Season
Ski season has begun in Italy and Ridley Scott’s Alpine filming location provides a low-key but no less stunning alternative to the real Gucci mountain hangout, St Moritz. In the shadow of the domineering Monterosa massif are the Italian ski villages of Gressoney Saint-Jean and Gressoney La Trinitè. They are less glitzy than many other modern ski resorts and are also favored by expert skiers looking for off-piste thrills.
Thrill seekers should head to Gressoney for skiing this season.

A nearby 1920s villa was used for a party scene in the movie and the property is now for sale. For a less permanent expenditure, there’s the 3-start Hotel Dufour in Gressoney La Trinitè where Lady Gaga hid away during last winter’s lockdown and filming.
Luxury On Lake Como
The most beautiful filming location, however, is the ultra-glamorous Lake Como. In glorious summer sunshine, Reggiani, who has just married Maurizio Gucci (Adam Driver) meets her new family at the lakeside Villa Balbiano. In the film, the villa is the property of Aldo Gucci, played by Al Pacino, and the family eats lunch in the picturesque gardens. Recreating the scene is actually possible, given the right budget, as the 16th-century waterside property is available to rent for weddings, parties and holidays. A night’s stay in the villa is also being advertised on Airbnb for March 2022.

With six bathrooms — decked out in marble — and six bedrooms, it is one of the largest private residences on the lake. It is adorned with antique furniture and decorations from auction houses Christie’s and Sotheby’s. So naturally, the night’s stay doesn’t come cheap. Taking place on March 30th, 2022, the single night will cost $1125. Bookings open on Monday, December 6th at 12pm EST.
Alternatively, visitors can follow the cast on their trip across the water to the opulent Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni just outside the hamlet of Bellagio. The famed hotel has welcomed many illustrious guests in its 150-year history including President J.F. Kennedy and House of Gucci star Al Pacino.
