As Covid travel restrictions rumbled on during the spring and summer months of both 2020 and 2021, UK holidays exploded in popularity, with availability becoming sought after in many places. And though some restrictions are beginning to wind down in many parts of the world, the trend for camping and caravan holidays is anticipated to stay.
Speaking to Express.co.uk, Ed Bassett, UK country manager at Camptoo, said: “Demand for travel remains high following two years of frustrations both at home and abroad, and with uncertainty around travel to parts of Europe, we anticipate that the spring and summer seasons for camping holidays in 2022 will remain as popular as ever this year.
“In fact, at Camptoo, we’re already seeing bookings being made for summer 2022, with 25 percent of bookings made in the last 30 days being for June and July.”
Supply and demand can often drive an increase in prices, and as Britons eagerly book their next camping holiday, the chance of making a saving could diminish.
Book as soon as possible
That is why Mr Bassett urges those with their heart’s set on pitching up, to get something in the diary sooner rather than later.

Mr Basett said: “Ensure you book with a company, like Camptoo, that has a decent cancellation policy in the event of any further lockdowns or last-minute changes to travel regulations, and that won’t penalise you financially for delaying or cancelling your trip.”
Try to holiday during “shoulder seasons”
Of course, it isn’t just how soon you make your booking that could reap financial rewards, but also when you choose to travel.
Flexibility, points out Mr Bassett, is key in this instance.
He told Express.co.uk: “By travelling during the shoulder seasons (March to June and September to October) you can benefit from fewer crowds, cheaper accommodation and much more flexibility when it comes to making reservations at popular restaurants or excursions.
“Those who book out of peak season can expect to make savings of around 10 to 30 percent when hiring their vehicle.”
Mr Bassett said: “According to recent Camptoo booking data, the most popular locations for 2022 remain the traditional staycation destinations of Cornwall, the Lake District, Scotland and Wales.”
Though these areas of outstanding natural beauty may anticipate an influx of crowds in the summer, selecting a site within driving distance means you can enjoy plenty of day trips.
Mr Bassett added: “The brilliance of camping is that you are also not limited to a single destination, so you can enjoy a road trip and pack in as many sites as your itinerary will allow.”
