How to wear double denim without looking like Britney and Justin

It’s the question that divides the nation: should you or shouldn’t you wear double denim? According to several of fashion’s favourite celebrities and influencers you absolutely should, and I’m of the firm opinion that twice the denim = double the outfit credentials.

Considered a huge faux pas since that iconic Britney and Justin picture circa 2001, and one that’ll have your peers calling you “brave” if ever you sport it, double denim is actually one of the easiest (and coolest) trends for spring. Just forgo the cowboy hat, maybe.

From the rise of ‘70s fashion – thanks, Daisy Jones and the Six – to a backlash against skinny jeans (let’s face it, mom jeans, straight-leg jeans and boyfriend jeans are far superior), there’s a whole host of denim-related moments occurring RN, and everyone is paying attention – even the high-brow designers. Y/Project paired a denim maxi skirt with some denim boots, Saint Laurent made the case for denim suiting, and Marc Jacobs adorned its double denim looks with sparkling crystals for a more feminine take on the hard-working fabric.
