Hugo Broos heaps praise on Bafana Bafana hero Themba Zwane

Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has reserved special praise for Themba Zwane who scored a brace in the friendly against Sierra Leone on Saturday.

South Africa thumped Leone Stars 4-0 in front of a small crowd at FNB Stadium.

The other two goals were scored by Mihlali Mayambela and Zwane’s Mamelodi Sundowns team-mate Aubrey Modiba.

It was the first call-up for the Brazilians midfielder since the Belgian tactician took the reins as Bafana Bafana coach in 2021.

Broos admitted he knew that Zwane was a “good player” but he wanted to first give an opportunity to the young players.

‘I KNEW THAT HE WAS A GOOD PLAYER’ – BROOS ON ZWANE

“Ja first of all, when you believe in your qualities that you can make things and I think the guys who were on the pitch today believed in it,” Broos told SABC Sport as quoted by KickOff.com.

“We had a good training session behind us and we asked them to play like they have the qualities and I think they did it today.

“There was a team on a team on the pitch and it was not enough to have 1-0, we wanted more so I’m very happy.

“Themba was very good today and I’m very happy. I said ‘only fools don’t change their minds’. I knew he was a good player but I just said we start something in September with young players.

“But I prefer first of all to give the chance to young players but and now we did not find it. Why not change? You see, he proved that maybe he’s a missing link in our team.

“At the other side we have to be a little bit careful not to be too happy because this is not France, this is not Ghana, this is not Morocco. But again the performance of Themba was very good.”
