Hyundai announces sustainable village fete that’s powered by cars

The South Korean car company is currently looking for venues to hold their fete, which is expected to be completely off the grid.

Hyundai hopes to bring community spirit to the village where the event will be held, with the company suggesting locations where fetes have previously been cancelled.

Ashley Andrew, the President of Hyundai Motor UK, explained why the event, which is set to take place in early September 2023, is more than just a gimmick.

He said: “The idea was inspired by our unique ability to bring power to new places. We hope that seeing EV’s in this innovative and distinct way will also help people better understand their potential.

“We believe the unique fete will not only create a memorable experience for a particular community, but also showcase and inspire other villages to adopt more sustainable practices.”

Hyundai has been selling cars in the UK since 1982 and currently sells four fully electric models, including the Ioniq 6 and KONA Electric.

Like many new EVs, these vehicles come with Vehicle-To-Load (V2L) technology, meaning the vehicles battery can be used to power electrical items when it is not in use.

Whilst the amount of energy this system is able to supply varies on the car, many companies claim that V2L systems can power most household items, including laptops, televisions and kettles.

Whilst it is currently unclear what attractions will be at Hyundai’s village fete, mock-up photos from the company show the cars powering strings of lights and an ice cream machine.

The photos also include one of their models parked underneath a traditional village maypole which is coated in colourful LED lights.

The company say that the village hosting the event will need to feature an open space, such as a field or green, in order to accommodate their range of cars.

Hyundai claim that their car-powered village fate will take place on either the 2nd or 3rd September 2023.

Ashley expressed his excitement for the event, wherever it may take place.

He added: “We can’t wait to ‘supercharge’ a village and work with them to pull off the world’s first car powered village fete.”
