Q: On northbound Interstate 880 just before The Alameda offramp in San Jose, there is a water leak on the berm beside the roadway that is causing flooding on the two right lanes, and increasingly severe potholes, too. Drivers now swerve to avoid the water and potholes. This has been an issue since at least the start of the year. Are there plans to stop the leak and repair the road?

A: I’ve received so many comments recently about this section of 880. Read on…
Q: I drive 880 to my girlfriend’s house in Campbell every weekend and since March, have noticed that a flood fills lane 1 and part of lane 2 just before The Alameda exit. Do you know if that flood has been reported or how I can report it? The reason it concerns me is that I almost got into an accident several times there when the car in front of me drove through the water which sprayed on my windshield and blocked my view.

Q: I was wondering if you could shed some light on what’s going on with the massive puddle of water on 880 north just before you exit onto The Alameda in San Jose. The water extends into the middle lane. It’s really a messy situation and has been for a few years. With the rain from this winter’s storms, the problem has become much worse. This should definitely be on Caltrans’ high-priority list to fix.

Q: I’m hoping you can shed light on the flooding on 880 north by The Alameda in San Jose.
There has been a growing lake on the side of the road since January. Initially, I thought it must be a flooded drain with all the rain, but four months later, it has grown in size and now covers two lanes of traffic.
Caltrans has incident reports on it, but there’s no response on repair.

Q: I drive this stretch of 880 frequently and use The Alameda exit.
After all the rain, the road has been flooded across all lanes, and it’s deep enough in the exit lane to hydroplane. Even when you slow down to 35ish, water comes over the hood. To add to that, there is a series of really bad potholes in the right lane, which are full of water and invisible to the unwary.
Does Caltrans have any plans to fix this in the near future?
Ellen Platt, San Jose
A: Caltrans made some repairs this past week and will continue to monitor this troublesome spot. It has been a problem for decades.
