I Beg You, Rihanna, Please Don’t Bring Back Raccoon Hair

Rihanna can do no wrong in the style or beauty department. Somehow, every time she posts a photo she manages to wow us and her many fans with the beauty choices she makes, no matter how unconventional they may be. But who would have thought that in the year 2022, Rihanna would bring back raccoon hair — and look good with it?

For Savage x Fenty’s Valentine’s Day campaign, the Bajan singer shared an Instagram carousel featuring the new two-toned hair. For the unfamiliar, raccoon hair was a popular hair color technique among the emo and scene communities in the late 2000s that involved horizontal, chunky highlights or lowlights designed to look similar to the pattern of a raccoon’s tail.

Rihanna’s take is long and black with a choppy baby fringe. Her hair is full of scarlet red stripes in a horizontal pattern all over her head. There is even a chunky band of red running through her short bangs. Any other day, we may have side-eyed the nostalgic dye job with apprehension, but we can’t deny that she looks freaking good.

Who would Rihanna be without a face full of flawless Fenty Beauty makeup, too? Her makeup takes a neutral glam look with a light, shimmery brown smoky eye and glossy lips. In the first photo, she applies her own Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer lip gloss — we’re guessing it’s the shade Fussy or Fenty Glow — giving us a peek at her rose-gold chrome nails. They are in a long, square shape.

Though this hair looks great on Riri, we are not exactly convinced that the raccoon hair trend should make a resurgence any time soon — 2000s beauty trends might be on the rise, but I think we can all agree this is one that should stay in the past permanently, for the sake of every former emo kid’s chemically damaged hair. For BagGalRiri, however, we can make one exception.
