I cleaned my glass oven door with a 10p kitchen staple – here’s how

My oven is also a toaster, slow cooker and air fryer, which means it is used multiple times on a daily basis and it can get caked in crumbs and grease unless cleaned regularly.

After scrubbing the glass door with a disinfectant, I turned to the internet to find out different methods to try, one of which involved using a dishwasher tablet.

I began by boiling the kettle and getting a glass bowl ready for the dishwasher tablet to slightly dissolve in, but not all the way melted.

I opted to use Tesco’s All-In-One dishwasher tablets in the lemon scent which are priced at £3.90 for a pack of 40. I also use these tablets in my dishwasher, and each tablet works out at around 10p per tablet.

Once the kettle had boiled, I poured the hot water in until the bowl was around half full and I let it cool for five minutes.

Once the kettle had boiled, I poured the hot water in until the bowl was around half full and I let it cool for five minutes.

I then took the dishwasher tablet and dipped it into the water before gently scrubbing the targeted areas on the glass door.

The baked-on food stains and grime came away instantly without leaving any scratches on the door at all.

It was much easier to clean the appliance holding the tablet upright instead of laying it flat and scrubbing it across the surface.

This is because the dishwasher tablet becomes slightly softer each time it is dipped in the water which means it can crumble very easily.

Overall, the glass took me a couple of minutes to clean because I wanted to do it properly, but this oven is much smaller than standard oven doors.

My normal oven appliance has a door which opens from the side so this hack would be quite hard unless laying down a towel or tea towel underneath.

Dishwasher tablets are made of concentrated detergent that cleans dishes, cutlery and cups in the appliance, so they are also great for cleaning other areas, like the oven door.

The cheap tablets can also be used to clean the inside of the oven as well as oven racks. It is important to get the dry tablets instead of the liquid ones for this method, and they are often the cheaper ones too.

To clean oven trays and racks, wrap them up in some kitchen foil with a tablet inside before placing them in a bathtub or bucket with hot water.

Soak overnight and the gunk should wipe off the trays and racks, although stubborn grease and grime may need a second soak.

As well as using dishwasher tablets, one expert recommended using baking soda and water to help remove dirt.

Dean Davies, oven cleaning technician at Fantastic Services, said: “If you want to clean your oven without any harsh chemicals, simply place a heat resistant container of water inside while it’s still warm after cooking.

“Add a few drops of essential oils for a pleasant scent in your kitchen.” For the best results, Britons should apply the mixture to the oven and let it sit overnight to work.

In the morning, wipe the mixture away with a cloth dampened in a white vinegar and water solution.
