I looked for the cheapest holiday destination in July – results

0

In England, the majority of schools break up for the school holidays in July which can push up the price of flights. However, that doesn’t mean there are no bargains to be found. I used Skyscanner’s ‘Everywhere’ search feature for this experiment.

Aalborg

Scandinavia isn’t the UK’s top summer holiday destination but as temperatures rise around the globe, the weather can actually be a lot more pleasant than Spain in the height of summer.

I found bargain direct return flights travelling to Aalborg in Denmark for just £24 from London in July.

Sitting on the Limfjord waterfront, Aalborg is located in Denmark’s Jutland region. In summer, tourists can take a dip in the Aalborg Havnebad, an outdoor pool of fjord water.

Tourists could also check out Aalborg’s colourful Old Town or head to the trendy Nordkraft power station to attempt Denmark’s highest climbing wall.

France

France was the next cheapest destination to travel to with direct return flights to Paris for under £35 from Liverpool, Manchester and Leeds.

However, Paris is unfortunately one of the world’s most expensive cities, so although it might be cheap to get to, British tourists may end up spending a lot on accommodation.

Alternatively, I found direct return flights to Nantes, a pretty city on the Loire River, for under £65 from London, Manchester, Bristol and Birmingham.

Nantes isn’t far from the beach or tourists could enjoy a picnic at the city’s Jardin des Plantes.

Cork

I found direct return flights to Cork for under £30 in July from Manchester, Edinburgh, London, Nottingham and Liverpool.

Cork is Ireland’s second largest city and tourists can take in the sights on a walking tour.

A visit to Cork wouldn’t be complete without exploring the English Market or wandering Fitzgerald Park.

Tourists could also head out to explore the wider region and even kiss the Blarney Stone for the Gift of the Gab.

Gdansk

Flights are obviously only part of the cost of a holiday, but there are a few destinations that are still a bargain once Britons arrive.

I found return direct flights to Gdansk for under £70 from Leeds, London, Manchester, Liverpool and Newcastle.

Gdansk, on Poland’s Baltic coast, is the centre of the world’s amber trade. Tourists can also explore the city’s Old Town, which was painstakingly reconstructed after WWII.

The Polish city is just a short drive from Sopot, a gorgeous beach destination with far cheaper prices than Spain or France.

Santiago de Compostela

Spain might be the UK’s top summer holiday destination but there are a few areas Britons often miss.

I found direct return flights to Santiago de Compostela, in northern Spain, for under £85 from London and Edinburgh.

The city is famous as the finish line of the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage route and the capital of Galicia.

Although the weather’s not as reliable as on Spain’s Costa del Sol, the region actually has some of the country’s most breathtaking beaches which are bound to have far fewer crowds than those in the south.

All prices were found on Skyscanner and correct at the time of writing.
