I looked for the cheapest holiday destinations for flights in July

Travel experts generally recommend British tourists book their flights as far in advance as possible.

However, that’s not always possible and tourists who’ve left their booking to the last-minute still have a chance to catch a deal on flights.

For this exclusive experiment for Express.co.uk, I’ve looked at flights leaving the UK in July and chosen the cheapest return options. I used Skyscanner’s “Everywhere” function for this search.

From France to less traditional summer options such as Poland, I found there are still a few destinations where Britons can get a deal on flights.

It’s important to remember that flights are only part of the holiday budget and Britons may be able to save by spending more on flights if accommodation is affordable in their destination.

France

I found return flights to Paris for just £23 from Liverpool, £30 from Leeds and Manchester and £43 from Belfast. Tourists flying from Bournemouth could reach Bergerac for £26 return.

Europe’s City of Lights is one of its top tourist destinations for a reason, but accommodation costs tend to soar in July.

Britons can save by opting to stay in the city’s business district and keeping an eye out for affordable set menus. Tourists could also check out one of Paris’s free attractions, such as Musee Carnavalet, instead of the pricier Louvre.

Bergerac in France’s Dordogne region might be a more affordable option for any wine-loving tourists although the charming town also has plenty of history to uncover.

Poland

I found return flights to Wroclaw for £23 from Leeds, £24 from London and £33 from Birmingham. Tourists flying from London or Bristol can also find returns for under £30 to Poznan.

Wroclaw, pronounced like “vrot swaaf”, is a gorgeous city in western Poland. It has a pretty Market Square with a fountain at its heart. After wandering the city’s pretty cobblestoned alleys, tourists can tuck into a traditional meal of dumplings.

Poznan is one of Poland’s oldest cities and tourists shouldn’t miss the city’s central clock which features a pair of headbutting goats. In July, temperatures can reach the high 20s.

Denmark

Although Denmark isn’t the most traditional of summer destinations, it’s frequently one of the cheapest options for summer flights. I found flights for under £25 return from London to Aalborg.

The city, in Denmark’s Jutland region, is known for its pretty waterfront and gorgeous outdoor pool.

The warmest time of year is generally late July when temperatures regularly reach the 20s, making it a very comfortable summer destination.
