A HOLIDAYMAKER has sparked a fierce debate over hotel etiquette after revealing how he left his room for the cleaners.

Social media star Darren Dowling, better known as Dazza, divided opinion when he shared an image of his attempts at tidying up.

The former Come Dine With Me contestant, who was enjoying a trip to the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida, stripped his sheet, duvet cover, and pillowcases from the bed and placed them neatly on the mattress.

Darren, who previously hit headlines for the same thing, wrote: “Even in Mickey Mouse’s gaff.”

He claimed his method was only fair to help save the housekeepers from having to do it.

But those in the comments had a variety of viewpoints on the issue.

One person said: “As a former housekeeper we LOVE guests who do this.”

Another added: “Way to be a good guest, strip the sheets when you leave.”

Someone commented: “If I was the cleaner I’d think you’d s**t the bed and was trying to hide the fact.”

A follower quipped: “You playing Jenga with those pillows?

“As long as you’ve not p***ed the bed I’m sure they’ll be happy.”

Meanwhile, an etiquette expert has revealed why holidaymakers are unlikely to get a free hotel upgrade even if they ask nicely.

A free hotel upgrade is the dreamiest way to quick the holiday off to a flying start – but in 2023 guests are likely to be moved into a pricier room.

William Hanson, the television etiquette expert has revealed why holidaymakers are unlikely to get upgraded for free – if they ask at check-in.

He told Sun Online Travel: “You can ask the hotel staff at check-in as an option, but you’re unlikely to get the best room for free.”

William warned of disappointment as the cheeky request is likely to be declined – and for a good reason.

He said: “The upgraded room might require more housekeeping staff to clean and maintain the room, which may mean the hotel would running at a loss if they gave a free upgrade.”

Instead of angling for a free stay, William explained that the best way to move into a better room, whether that be a sea view or a room with a balcony, is to ask for an on-the-day upgrade.

He added: “Ask to upgrade on the day because you might only be charged €20 per night instead of €50 per night a few days ago.”

“While I wouldn’t ask for a free upgrade, if you get an upgrade on the off-chance that’s very different.”
