‘I tried the late Queen’s ideal tea blend and I was very surprised’

Queen Elizabeth II loved three types of tea according to a former royal butler – Darjeeling, Assam, and Earl Grey. Grant Harrold, the late Queen’s former butler confirmed that the late monarch enjoyed Earl Grey, Assam and Darjeeling tea.

Darjeeling tea is a Chinese tea that grows in India and includes notes of French grapes, making it quite a unique taste.

The brand Camellia’s Tea House created a blend of the late Queen’s favourite tea flavours during the Platinum Jubilee in 2022.

I tried this blend of tea exclusively for Express.co.uk to see what it tasted like compared to an English Breakfast tea, which is more what I’m used to as a tea drinker.

The tea blend was made of loose tea leaves, which I brewed for about five minutes in boiling hot water.

The tea leaves were incredibly beautiful, as they were a mixture of purple, white and black leaves which made it look extremely colourful.

This made it a very different experience as opposed to dropping a simple tea bag into a hot mug of boiling water.

After brewing the colourful tea leaves, I poured the tea through a strainer to catch all of the tea leaves as the liquid entered my mug.

I waited a few minutes before trying the tea, as it was scolding hot.

It had a perfect light and subtle flavour, which meant that it could be enjoyed perfectly well without milk.

Royal fans would love this blend of tea, especially as it was created to celebrate Her Late Majesty’s 70 years of service to the country.

Overall, the tea had a medium-bodied flavour which was not at all overpowering.

The tea leaves also created a rather floral taste, which Her Late Majesty likely enjoyed.

According to Mr Grant, the late Queen enjoyed Darjeeling tea for High Tea in the afternoon.

This tea would work extremely well with sandwiches or scones due to the fact that it is nice and light.

The health benefits of Darjeeling tea include being rich in healthy plant chemicals, including powerful antioxidants.

However, Darjeeling tea still includes caffeine, therefore consuming more than 400 mg of caffeine daily can negatively impact your health.
