I was charged £327 by TUI to change name on my boarding pass – I’m furious

A MUM was left furious after being charged a whopping £327 to change the name on her boarding pass by TUI.

Sharon Tucker was left stunned when she was slapped with the hefty fee, despite realising her mistake just ten minutes after she booked a family trip to Turkey.

She explained she had finalised the details of her holiday with TUI over the phone when she noticed her passport was set to expire within a month of her break.

Brits visiting the holiday hotspot must have at least 150 days left of validity from the date they arrive, according to gov.uk.

Sharon then twigged that her new passport would feature her maiden name instead of her married one, meaning she would need to alter the name on her boarding pass.

The panicking NHS worker, from Plymouth, claims she called TUI back within ten minutes to inform them of the mixup.

But she was left horrified when she was informed that she would have to stump up £327.27 for the simple switch.

A “shocked” Sharon tried to dispute the pricey fee, but says she made no progress despite sending 20 emails to TUI.

The mum told PlymouthLive that the only response she received was a blunt message telling her “that this is the cost”.

She fumed: “I work in admin and I know that changing a name takes seconds. We deal with it all the time with patients changing names and addresses.

“The tickets have not even been printed. I have spoken to TUI who say they only charge £25 for admin corrections.

“I have emailed the call centre several times and they can not tell me who is requesting that charge and why it is so extortionate.”

After the publication got in touch with TUI on Sharon’s behalf, the travel giant performed a dramatic U-turn and changed the name on the ticket free of charge.

A TUI spokesperson apologised for the incident, stating that the initial charge was incorrect.

They said in a statement: “We are sorry to hear that Ms Tucker was incorrectly told she would be charged £350 to change her name on her boarding pass.

“We have been in contact with Ms Tucker and her passport details have been updated with the airline free of charge.

“We apologise for the inconvenience caused, and we’re happy we were able to rectify the situation for her. We hope she has a lovely holiday.”

The relieved mum says she was left stunned by TUI’s change of heart after her pleas for help were initially disregarded.

Sharon added: “I did not expect this outcome to be honest.

“I was expecting to have to pay something but nothing to pay is a great result. Power to the people!”
