Indore hosted the 3rd Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy series in earlier this month. The match ended within seven sessions as Australia won the match by 9 wickets. A total of 31 wickets fell within two days and a session, 26 of them were picked up by spinners.
Following the report of match referee, ICC deemed the Indore pitch unfit and rated it ‘poor’ along with three demerit points. But BCCI appealed against the verdict and yielded a positive result.
ICC now has upgraded the pitch rating to ‘below average’ from its initial ‘poor’ status and Indore will receive only one demerit point instead of three. ICC confirmed the match footage was reviewed by Wasim Khan (ICC General Manager) and Roger Harper (ICC Men’s Cricket Committee Member).
The pair came to the conclusion that the pitch didn’t have enough excessive variable bounce to receive the ‘poor’ rating, and hence the Indore pitch status bettered after the review.
