ICC is poised to announce the schedule of the upcoming World Cup today (Tuesday, June 27). Keep yourself updated and follow our live blog to know the latest news which unfolds.

In this World Cup, all Ten teams will play nine matches each in the group stages. The top four teams are supposed to qualify for the knockouts.

ICC World Cup Previous Winners

The ICC World Cup is a quadrennial tournament which started in England back in 1975. In the inaugural two seasons (1975 and 1979), West Indies were crowned as Champions.

India won the tournament in 1983 under the captaincy of Kapil Dev. In 1987, the World Cup was held outside England for the first time and Australia were crowned as Champions. After that, Pakistan won the World Cup under then-captain Imran Khan in 1992, followed by Sri Lanka in 1996.

Australia’s dominance then started from 1999, as the Aussies won the tournament thrice in a row – 1999, 2003 and 2007. India lifted the trophy back in 2011 and thus became the first team to win the cricket World Cup as hosts. Australia won it again in 2015 and then it was England who won it in the previous edition in 2019.

The opening match of the Cricket World Cup will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad as England and New Zealand will lock horns in the first match.

India play their first match against Australia in Chennai on October 8. This will also be the first match for the Aussies. Pakistan, on the other hand, kickstart their campaign against the 1st Qualifying (Q1) team.
