Iconic Grade-II listed tower could be yours for just £50,000

The control centre for the Trafford Road swing bridge is now disused and currently has an uncertain future.

However, one lucky bidder could become the owner of this incredible Grade-II listed property in a prominent position in Salford.

The control tower will be sold to the highest bidder in an online auction hosted by Auction House North West next month.

Trafford Road is one of seven swing bridges that spanned Manchester’s Ship Canal. The bridge is 200 feet in length and weighs a massive 1,800 tonnes.

By the end of World War Two, Manchester Docks was the third busiest port in the UK, however, it went into decline in the 1970s and closed in 1982 because it couldn’t accommodate larger container vessels in the Ship Canal.

The swing bridge permanently opened to vehicles in 1992 and six years later it was fixed in place as part of a scheme to widen the road to a dual carriageway and improve traffic flow.

This is the first time the Grade-II listed control tower is available at public auction and is an exciting opportunity for an investor looking for a unique investment opportunity.

However, there is a catch. The building has not been internally inspected and is likely to be in a “shell condition” inside.

The new owners will also have to obtain the relevant consents and are advised to consult with Salford City Planning Department with regard to the property’s intended use.

The building is located in Salford in the heart of the redeveloped Quays which is just a short distance from Greater Manchester’s unique waterfront.

The western section has been transformed into a thriving cultural, business and cultural location thanks to Salford City Council.

The tower is also less than 15 minutes on foot from some of North West England’s most popular tourist attractions including The Imperial War Museum North and The Lowry.

Trafford Road Bridge Control Tower goes up for sale by online auction with Auction House North West on September 6.
