TRAVEL guru Simon Calder has shared a “genius” travel hack allowing Brits to save thousands on their summer holidays.
Speaking to Lorraine Kelly on her STV morning chat show, the travel expert shared his savvy tips as the countdown to a summer getaway begins.
As thousands across the country start planning some sunshine abroad, Lorraine quizzed Simon on some money-saving measures families can take to make the most of their time off.
And she was left stunned by his “genius” response – admitting “I’ve never thought about that.”
The travel guru told how prices are often hiked during the school half term – but explained how families can take advantage of the different times off across the UK.
He told how Scottish families could cross the border for their flight at the start of the Scottish half term – before airline fees skyrocket in England.

He said: “It’s still school term in Northern England for another 2/3 weeks and I actually priced one up.
“A standard package holiday to the Balearics you are saving about £1,000 for a family of four.”
Simon added that the trick can be reversed – with families in northern England able to travel from Scottish airports in the final two weeks of their half term.
He added: “If you’re in Northern England, you can reverse it in the last two weeks of August.
“Go to Edinburgh, Glasgow, Prestwick get a flight from there and you’ll be saving money.”
