I’m an air hostess – here are the things you should always take on a plane

AN AIR hostess has revealed her top travel hacks for passengers.

Alyx Barnett, 22, works for TUI and flies all over the world every week.

During her travels she’s realised there are some essential items that travellers shouldn’t step on a plane without.

Alyx, from Glasgow, reckons everyone should stick a change of clothes in their hand luggage to be on the safe side.

She said: “I would always take spare clothes with me in my carry-on luggage.

“You should never just rely entirely on your checked-on baggage. That could get lost or you might need an urgent change.”

Alyx told how one customer didn’t have any spare clothes to hand and regretted the decision.

She said: “There was an incident where a child was sick all down their dad.  He had nothing to change into. 

“He had to go about for hours with sick all down him. There was nothing much we could do for him.”

Alyx, who’s originally from Perth, applied to become an air hostess straight out of school but then had to wait four years for her first flight.

Now she flies to Mexico as much as three times a week.

She used to hate packing but now her suitcase is always packed and ready to go.

Another of her top tips for travellers is something that she would now never get on a plane without.

Alyx said: “I would always bring a blanket on the plane.

“It’s hard to get the same temperature throughout the aircraft because they are so big.

“Passengers at the front might be hot while those at the back are freezing.

“Blankets are not always available so I’d always have one in my carry-on bag.”

Cabin crew always go out of their way to cater for passengers with allergies.

But Alyx warned travellers to be prepared.

She said: “Quite a lot of passengers have allergies. 

“We provide food for them but sometimes they might have other allergies. Bring something else to eat with you if you have allergies, just in case.”

After her four year flight delay Alyx is now living her best life jetting all over the world.

She said: “I just absolutely love my job.  Every flight I fall in love with it even more. I don’t know if I’ll ever get tired of it.”
