I’m Turning 30—Here’s Why I’m Quitting Fast Fashion

The older I get, the more I realize that less is more in every aspect of life. Growing up, like most teens, I faced the pressure of who had the most friends and the best clothes. As the years went on, I quickly came to realize none of that mattered. At this stage in my life, I realize it’s quality over quantity, and I’ve been happier than ever since I started living by that mantra. 

As an influencer, I’ve accumulated a lot of clothes over the years. My closet gives me major anxiety. I want to wake up, have my few key pieces to choose from, and enjoy getting dressed each morning. In order to achieve this, I’ve begun cleaning out my closet to donate beautiful pieces that don’t serve a purpose in my life anymore. I’m steering away from fast fashion and trendy pieces to curate a closet of timeless pieces that make me feel like the best version of myself.

Turtlenecks are a staple for most of the year. They serve as a base layer for a winter look or as a chic staple that stands on its own. I want to make sure mine last me season after season—not only through a few washes.

You really can’t go wrong with a good blazer. Throwing one on over any look helps it feel complete. Year after year, it’s one of the things I reach for most. If there’s anything to invest in for quality, it’s a blazer, and these are some of the best.

Tailored Coats

There’s nothing like how a beautiful, tailored coat can make you look and feel. It’s a piece you can wear for decades if you pick up the right one. I’m looking for classic, minimal ones that will look good with anything.

Loafers

Loafers are a chic, cool footwear staple that will never go out of style. Because of their timeless element, I’m looking to buy a pair with the intention of them being one of my most-worn shoes. That means they need to be basic enough to ensure they aren’t trendy. Yet, they should be cool enough to elevate my outfits. These are the ones I’m eyeing.

’90s Inspired Denim

There’s nothing a good pair of relaxed, vintage-feeling jeans can’t do, and of all denim, these are the most versatile. It’s worth finding a pair that is flattering on your body, won’t stretch throughout the day, and is something you look forward to putting on.

Gold Hoops

Gold hoops are the most basic piece in a jewelry collection, which means you don’t want a pair that will tarnish after a few months. I’m looking for a one-and-done pair I won’t need to replace, no matter how much I wear them.

Crossbody Bags

While bag trends come and go, classic crossbody bags are here to stay. So, having one you love in your wardrobe is essential. I’m looking for one that can carry all of my things, be worn all year long, and that will stand the test of time.

Layering Pieces

One of the most overlooked categories of clothes is layering pieces. But they’re arguably one of the most important things you can invest in. When you’re using a white tank or black turtleneck as a base for a jacket or cardigan, you want to make sure it fits like a glove and will elevate the look—not just blend in with it.
