‘IN A GOOD PLACE:’ Shania Twain talks about getting over cheating ex

Shania Twain is opening up about her painful first marriage and how she got over his affair with her close friend.

Twain and producer Robert “Mutt” Lange were married in 1993 but ended things in 2008 when she discovered he had an affair with her pal, Marie-Anne Thiebaud.

“It was a very low period in my life,” the 57-year-old told People magazine.

But in the stuff Hallmark movies are made of, Twain and Thiebaud’s husband, former Nestle exec Frederic Thiebaud, found solace with one another and eventually fell in love.

“When I got divorced I said, ‘I’m never getting married again.’ I was definitely one of those people that could have written a million songs about, ‘I’m never going to fall in love again,’” Twain said. “But Fred was such an undeniable love.”

Twain and Lange finalized their divorce in 2010 and on New Year’s Day 2011, she and Thiebaud did what seemed unthinkable and tied the knot.

“That is a really strong bond that builds over time, that is rare, that you don’t have in every relationship if you don’t have those deep scars in common,” Twain said of their relationship.

“We were a big part of each other’s healing.”

The two are now in a “second honeymoon phase” given that their children – Eja, her son with Lange, and Thiebaud’s daughter, Johanna – have moved out.

In fact, enough time has gone by where Twain is “in a good place” with her ex.

“I found peace a long time ago, and maybe peace is forgiveness, you know?” Twain said of moving on.

“I’m able to have more appreciation for him again, not for what happened in our marriage, but for all that he contributed to such a great part of my career and my life,” she explained of their collaboration on three of her hit albums. “We have a beautiful child from it. The resentment is gone.”

Twain added: “I was coming out of a dark place… now I’m on the other side of that.”
