Jaiswal, who was handed his Test cap by skipper Rohit Sharma, remained unbeaten on 40 from 73 balls on day 1 of the Test series opener at the Windsor Park in Roseau, Dominica.
The 21-year-old shared an unbeaten 80-run opening stand with captain Rohit (30 not out off 65 balls) to cut the defecit of West Indies’ first innings total of 150 to 70 at stumps on day 1. Following his decent start to life in international cricket, Jaiswal earned praise from Ashwin.
After the proceedings came to a close on Day 1, ‘five star’ Ashwin hoped Jaiswal does great things in his career, predicting some special performances from the youngster, whom he labelled ‘vibrant’ and ‘extremely talented’.
“Jaiswal is a vibrant cricketer, extremely talented. I hope he goes on to do great things in his career. I think we’re going to see some special performances from him,” Ashwin said after the end of Day 1.
Before Jaiswal shone with the bat, Ashwin stole the limelight with the ball, claiming his 33rd five-wicket haul in Tests that also helped bundle out West Indies for just 150 despite the hosts opting to bat first on day 1.

Ashwin, who also became the third Indian bowler to claim 700 International wickets with his fifer, explained how adapting to the pitch conditions played a key role in the initial phase of the game, but expects more spin to take effect.
“Thought it was a pretty good performance. There was a bit of moisture on the pitch earlier but it started to spin later. Saw on the TV as well that it turned more later. Had to adapt early. It was a bit dry, have to get the pace right to trouble the batsmen. International cricket is all about adapting to different conditions,” Ashwin added.
