An upset Indian team captain sent a message to the wicketkeeper-batter from the dressing room in the 153rd over of India’s first innings and asked him to score his first Test run immediately.

The southpaw got into action immediately and opened his account on the 20th ball he faced in his maiden Test outing. Alzarri Joseph bowled a short of a good length delivery as Kishan guided it towards square leg for a single.
Immediately, Rohit signalled for a declaration and called back Kishan and Ravindra Jadeja (37* off 82) back in the pavilion. Ishan Kishan stayed unbeaten on 1 off 20 balls to start off his Test career. He saw the fun side to it and raised his bat towards the dressing room as he ran back to the pavilion.

#RohitSharma knows the nerves well, He can do the magic itself by sitting in dressing room ????????
But this time, he gets bored by watching that type of innings from Ishan Kishan ????#WIvsIND pic.twitter.com/2298fQQ6gI

The Bihar-born batter had to wait for his Test debut for quite some time. He was first named in the India squad in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023. However, KS Bharat got to play ahead of him in all the four matches. Kishan was even benched in the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia in June.
Many including Ricky Ponting suggested that India should have included him in the eleven for the WTC final as he brings an X-factor with him. The 24-year-old has a strike rate of 68.90 in first-class cricket. Maybe this was the reason why Rohit was upset as Kishan failed to open his account on the first 19 balls.
The declaration at 421/5 saw India take a 271-run first innings lead against West Indies who were bundled out for 150 in the first innings. With a lot of cricket still left on Day 3, India would be looking to close in on the hosts and give a shot to register a win by an innings margin.
