IND W vs BAN W: ‘Could Have Shown Better Manners’ – Nigar Sultana on Harmanpreet Kaur Behaviour

Indian skipper Harmanpreet smashed the stumps after being given out, and later called the umpiring “pathetic” at the post-match presentation ceremony and also took the swipe during the photograph of the two teams together.

Opting to bat, Bangladesh rode on Fargana Hoque’s hundred to post a total of 225/4 in their allotted 50 overs. Shamima Sultana also scored a fifty and shared a 93-run stand with Fargana for the opening wicket. For India, Sneh Rana picked up two wickets.

In response, Smriti Mandhana and Harleen Deol scored fifties, but a collapse from 191 for 5 saw India manage to just level the score. Following the match, Harmanpreet was critical of the umpires.

Harmanpreet Kaur umpire argument: Bangladesh fans demean Indian skipper on Twitter

“A lot of learning from this game,” Harmanpreet said at the presentation ceremony. “Even apart from the cricket, the type of umpiring that was happening there, we were very surprised.

“The next time whenever we are coming to Bangladesh, we’ll have to make sure we have to deal with this kind of umpiring and accordingly, we’ll have to prepare ourselves.”

Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana, however, was not pleased with Harmanpreet’s behaviour on the field or during the team photograph, when the Indian skipper reportedly asked for the umpires also to join the Bangladesh team for the photo.

According to a report by ESPNcricinfo, Harmanpreet shouted “bring the umpires too” when the two teams were taking a photograph together, suggesting the umpires too were part of the Bangladesh team.

The report also added that Nigar has spoken about it to BCB officials, and took her players back to the dressing room soon after. The Bangladesh captain said Harmanpreet could have shown better manners.

“It is totally her problem. I have nothing to do with it,” Nigar said in the press conference when asked about the incident. “As a player, she could have shown better manners.

“I can’t tell you what happened, but it didn’t feel right to be there [for the photograph] with my team. It wasn’t the right environment. That’s why we went back. Cricket is a game of discipline and respect.”
