Yashasvi Jaiswal made his Test debut against West Indies in the 1st Test in Dominica. India registered a resounding victory by an innings and 141 runs, and Jaiswal played a big part in it.
The youngster grabbed his opportunity in both hands and scored a sublime 171 runs on debut. The southpaw led the foundation of the visitors’ batting and won the player of the match award as well.
And Indian coach Vikram Rathour believes the young sensation can represent national colours for the next ten years at least. He cited his experience as a former selector and said players like Jaiswal
“I’ve been a selector before, so whenever you pick a player you should pick him with the intent that he will play for India for the next 10 years. He definitely has the potential,” Rathour said in the press conference ahead of India’s 2nd Test against West Indies.
Jaiswal, who has scored a plethora of runs for Rajasthan Royals in IPL, is generally known for aggressive batting. But we saw a different approach from him on the 2nd day of the first Test, where he showed his mettle by playing according to conditions.
Jaiswal scored just around 20 runs before Lunch while playing 90 or more balls. Rathour hailed his execution and ability to change the approach and marked it as the batter’s highlight from the entire innings.
“On the second day, he scored some 20 runs off 90 balls before Lunch. I think that for me was the highlight of the innings. Somebody who is able to do that, who can play against his character, his normal game, get through that phase and then score big runs, it was phenomenal to watch. Absolutely no doubt that he has great potential and great future with the Indian team in all three formats,” the Indian batting coach added.
