Rohit Sharma and Co will look to bounce back from a 1-2 home series loss to Australia earlier this year as they begin their ODI World Cup preparations, while Shai Hope-led West Indies will look to start afresh, having lost out on a spot for the show-piece event in the qualifiers last month.
India defeated the West Indiesn side 1-0 in the Test series, but now it will be a whole different game as the action shifts to limited over format, which will see some new faces on both the sides.
For the Men in Blue, the likes of Hardik Pandya, Yuzvendra Chahal, Sanju Samson, Suryakumar Yadav, Kuldeep Yadav and Umran Malik are some names that will link up with some of the Test team players.
For the hosts, captain Hope will be joined by the likes of Rovman Powell, Shimron Hetmyer, Nicholas Pooran, Kyle Mayers, Brandon King, Dominic Drakes and Odean Smith among many other white ball specialists.
The two sides will clash at the Kensington Oval Stadium for the fourth time, but for the first time since 2002. And it’s a venue where West Indies have had the advantage in their meetings with India, who will look to better the record in the two matches in Barbados.
India will also face West Indies in the second ODI at the same venue on Saturday (July 29) before they head to Trinidad & Tobago for the third and final ODI at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy, Tarouba.
Now, let’s take a look at the Kensington Oval ODI Stats, Record, Pitch Report and Barbados Weather Forecast as well as the top performers and number at the venue ahead of India vs West Indies 1st ODI:

Kensington Oval Pitch Report
The wickets at the venue were difficult to score on in the early days, but have become more batting friendly recently with the most recent games seeing over 300 runs scored with ease.
The most recent match saw New Zealand chase down 303 in 2022, but the game before that was a low-scoring contest, a typical Barbados wicket, which helps quicker bowlers. The average score batting first at the venue is 230. So, the captain winning the toss may look to chase.
