Ambassador hails positive impact of engagement with MPEDA

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 6: The Embassy of India in Kuwait in association with the Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA), India organized a virtual Buyer-Seller Meet on Export of Marine Products to Kuwait at the embassy premises, says a press release issued by the embassy.

The meet was in follow-up of the buyer-seller meet on marine products which was held exactly a year ago. HE Sibi George, Ambassador of India to Kuwait, in his remarks complimented the positive impact of the engagement with MPEDA since last year that has shown a steady increase in the export of marine products from India to Kuwait. K. S. Srinivas, Chairman, MPEDA in his remarks exhorted the exporters and importers to explore the full potential of the seafood products industry in India. A presentation on seafood exports to Middle East and Kuwait was made by Dr. T. R. Gibinkumar, Deputy Director, MPEDA. Mohandas Kizhakke, Managing Director, Captain Fisher Foodstuff Co. W.L.L. spoke about the trends and potential for growth in seafood market in Kuwait. India exports fish, prawns and crabs to Kuwait.

During the current FY 2021-22 India has exported marine products worth 36.1 million US$ to Kuwait in the period of April-December 2021. During the FY 2020-21, India had exported marine products valued 39.12 million US$ to Kuwait. The event was organized as part of the 3Ts (Trade, Tourism and Technology) promotional initiative of the Embassy of India under which the embassy is focusing on promotion of trade in January 2022.

The focus of the meet was to ensure increase in sourcing of marine products from India and exploring various ways for a smoother export procedure. An interactive session between buyers and sellers was followed by the remarks made by the experts. The exporters shared details of their products on offer for export from India to Kuwait. The event saw participation from a large number of exporters and importers from India and Kuwait who joined virtually.
