Indiana basketball fans get blasted for court-storming after upsetting Purdue

Viewers weren’t pleased about the Indiana Hoosiers basketball fanbase storming the court after beating the No. 1 Purdue Boilermakers.

The Purdue Boilermakers have only lost one game this season, and that was to the Rutgers Scarlet Knights back on Jan. 2. Since then, they had gone on a nine-game winning streak. On Saturday, that streak officially reached its end, losing to one of their Big Ten rivals.

Purdue suffered their second loss of the season at the hands of the No. 22 Indiana Hoosiers by the score of 79-74.

Beating the No. 1 school in the entire nation is a feat that fans will celebrate. Given that this was the Hoosiers’ first win over the first-ranked team by the Associated Press since 2013, fans inside Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall stormed the court to mark the occasion.

As it turns out, there were some watching the game who didn’t like that Indiana ran onto the court to celebrate.

Indiana basketball fans criticized for storming the court after win over No. 1 Purdue

There were many arguments made about the optics of Hoosiers fans storming the court. Points being brought up include that “they are a blue blood program” and that” fans of a ranked team shouldn’t storm the court after they beat another ranked team.” Like any topic in sports, there was a debate.

The Hoosiers were led by forward Trayce Jackson-Davis, who scored 25 points while shooting 9-for-19 from the field and 7-for-9 from the free-throw line. Jackson-Davis also recorded seven rebounds and five blocks.

As for the Boilermakers, they had a stellar performance from Zach Edey, who recorded a 33 points, 18 rebound double-double, while shooting 15-for-19 from the field.

Indiana’s next game is, ironically, Rutgers on Tuesday, Feb. 6 at 6:30 p.m. ET, in a battle of the two teams who beat Purdue this season. As for Purdue, they will next take on the Iowa Hawkeyes on Thursday, Feb. 9 at 6:30 p.m. ET.
