Warning spoilers ahead. It’s been 15 years since Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull was released.
Set in 1957, Indy teamed up with Mutt (Shia LaBeouf), the son of his old flame Marion Ravenwood (Karen Allen) from Raiders of the Lost Ark, in a sci-fi romp involving aliens.
When the three were finally all reunited, it was revealed that the young man is in fact Indy’s son, Henry Jones III, before his parents are married at the end of the adventure.
Fast forward 12 years to 1969 and we’ve reached the events of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.
Harrison Ford’s archaeologist is living in New York alone and is on the verge of retirement.
Fans had been wondering if LaBeouf would be reprising Mutt in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny.
However, it soon became apparent he wouldn’t be as Indy’s sidekick in the movie is his goddaughter Helena, played by Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
Nevertheless, there’s a photograph of Mutt in uniform in Indy’s apartment and it soon is revealed that his son has in fact been killed off.
Henry Jones III was tragically killed in action in the Vietnam War a few years prior and the grief drove his parents apart.
Nevertheless, Marion does make a cameo right at the end of the movie where she and Indy make up and reenact their “Does it hurt here?” kissing scene from Raiders of the Lost Ark over 40 years ago.
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny is out now in UK cinemas.
