The recent Badminton Asia Champions from India will next face the Indonesian top seeds Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Rian Ardianto in the last eight match on Friday (June 16).

Joining the doubles pair from the country in the quarterfinal stage, were compatriots and singles stars Kidambi Srikanth and HS Prannoy, who both registered straight games wins over their respective opponents.

While Srikanth used his vast experience to quell the challenge of Lakshya Sen in an all-Indian second round duel to progress to the quarterfinals, Malaysia Masters champion Prannoy saw off Hong Kong’s NG Ka Long Angus to reach the last eight.

Although it was a straight games win, Srikanth had to fight hard to oust his compatriot Sen. The former World Championships silver medallist beat the Commonwealth Games champion 21-17, 22-20 in the second round match that lasted for 45 minutes.

Seventh-seeded Prannoy, on the other hand, beat the unseeded shuttler from Hong Kong by a scoreline of 21-18, 21-16 in the round of 16 match that lasted for 43 minutes.

However, it was curtains for double Olympic medallist PV Sindhu at the Indonesia Open World Tour Super 1000 event along with Priyanshu Rajawat, who went down fighting in his men’s singles clash.

Sindhu had made opening round exits from the last two events. And it was no better here with the Chinese Taipei shuttler Tai Tzu Ying enhancing her head-to-head record over the Indian to a staggering 19-5.

Sindhu and Tai Tzu’s most recent meeting was at the 2023 Sudirman Cup, where the Chinese Taipei player won 21-14 18-21 21-17. With Sindhu’s loss, Indian challenge came to an end in the women’s singles event.

Rajawat, who received a walkover in the first round, meanwhile, took the first game 22-20, but dropped the next two by a similar score of 15-21 to Indonesia’s second seed Anthony Sinisuka Ginting in the second round match.
