ABU DHABI, 26th June, 2023 (WAM) — The Indonesian Embassy in Abu Dhabi organised the ASEAN Bowling Competition at Zayed Sports City in the capital.
Around 54 players from ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) participated in the event held on Sunday, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Brunei Darussalam, Singapore, and the Philippines, in the presence of hundreds of community members.
The event was even more festive with the presence of the Ambassadors of ASEAN countries, namely Husin Bagis (Indonesia), Harun Junid (Brunei Darussalam), Alfonso Ferdinand (Philippines), Sorayut Chasombat (Thailand), Nguyen Manh Tuan (Vietnam), and Kamal R Vaswani (Singapore).
Opening the event, Ambassador Husin Bagis said that the activities were held to enhance familiarity and strengthen friendship among ASEAN countries in the UAE. Apart from that, the activities are also aimed in the context of supporting Indonesia’s Chairmanship in ASEAN in 2023.
In the competition, Indonesia came out as the winner, followed by Malaysia as the first runner up, and the Philippines as the second runner up.
The high summer temperature did not affect the enthusiasm of the players and the community to come and participate in the competition, which was considered as the first gathering for the ASEAN community after the pandemic.
“This exciting activity has been long awaited. I am very happy to meet ASEAN friends,” said Thai Ambassador Sorayut Chasombat after the tournament.
This bowling competition is also part of a series of events to commemorate the 78th Indonesian Independence Day, which will culminate on 17th August.
