Riverside Community College District students will again be asked to mask up when indoors.

Trustees of the district, which runs Riverside City, Moreno Valley and Norco colleges, agreed Tuesday, Aug. 2, to bring back an indoor mask mandate when classes resumes for the fall term, a news release states. The term begins Monday, Aug. 22, at the three colleges.

The district had ended its mask mandate in March.

Also, the board unanimously decided to drop the district’s COVID-19 vaccination mandate for students, district employees and visitors to district facilities, according to the release.

“Because of leveling infection rates and the less severe symptoms with the BA. 5 variant, it is time to remove the vaccination requirement,” Chancellor Wolde-Ab Isaac said in the release. “It is important to recognize that this virus will not be eliminated. As we have done with many of the other viruses, we will need to learn to live with it. It has become clear that we have transitioned from a pandemic situation.”

The district will continue to stress “the positives of receiving COVID-19 vaccinations and boosters” and offer testing, the release states. Personal protection items will be available on campuses and at district buildings.

Students and employees will be required to report positive COVID-19 test results so Riverside County can continue tracking cases, the release states.
