Not everyone would travel almost 30 hours to attend a runway show, but actor Kitty Chicha Amatayakul is devoted to fashion. The Thai star—who you may know as Nanno on the Netflix series Girl From Nowhere—traveled to Marrakech this weekend for the label’s spring 2023 menswear show. She took Vogue inside her whirlwind trip to the city, which she says was just as enticing as Anthony Vaccarello’s Agafay desert-set presentation. “The moment I got to see Marrakech with my own eyes for the first time, I was spellbound,” says Amatayakul. “The city in the dark under the full moon is very enchanting and beautiful. And when I woke up in this city under the sun, it was lively and bright. I really enjoy how Marrakech is wonderful during the day and mysterious during the night.”
Amatayakul’s own wardrobe is filled with cool black suiting and jumbo YSL totes—so it’s no wonder she made the trek to take in Saint Laurent’s new sleek, rock and roll-inspired clothes. “I love wearing all-black, and I love wearing what I could live both my days and my nights with,” she says. “I’m a big fan of how Saint Laurent is very sophisticated and timeless. While I could play around with their black jeans, leather jackets, and t-shirts, I also enjoy their suits, dresses, and handbags. I have to admit I’m a sucker for their lighters, too.”
Sitting front-row at the show among guests like Laura Harrier and Anwar Hadid, she wanted an outfit that fell in line with the new menswear collection’s edgy spirit. “I wore this little black dress pair with a pair of boots instead of heels,” says Amatayakul. “Which I felt would be more suitable for this adventurous men’s show. I love the draping on the dress, and the pair of sunglasses completed the look for me.” As for her favorite looks from the show itself? “I couldn’t get over the redesigned suit set with shoulder pads,” says Amatayakul. “It’s such a nice way to bring back a classic and timeless Saint Laurent piece.”
Her favorite moments from her trip, however, were the ones that happened off the runway. “Just to have the show in Marrakech was already very special, since this place means a lot to Yves Saint Laurent himself,” Amatayakul says, referencing the designer’s well-documented love affair with the city (he also owned a home there). “The drive out of the city and getting lost into a desert; The stunning set in the middle of nowhere; The moving fountain, and also the perfect timing to finish the show with a sunset. Everything was very well curated.”
