Inside life of professional BABY NAMER earning 0k a year

A “professional baby namer” is picking up more than $1500 per child from parents desperate to give their bundle of joy the perfect moniker.

Taylor A. Humphrey says some indecisive parents are even stumping up as much as $10,000 for her services to ensure they get it just right.

The 33-year-old helped name more than 100 babies in 2020 alone, raking in more than $150,000.

“If you look at the most popular baby names, it’s such a telltale sign of our cultural values and our aspirations,” Humphrey told The New Yorker.

The tiers of service offered by Humphrey – who set up “What’s in a Baby Name” seven years ago – vary depending on the cash parents want to fork out.

They range from a phone call and a bespoke name list based on answers given to a questionnaire all the way up to more advanced genealogical investigations, which can uncover old family names.

Some parents even seek a moniker that is on-brand with their business.

Humphrey draws inspiration from endless sources; think movie credits, street signs, currents trends and brand names.

And she is up for any challenge. She recently put forward the name Parks for a couple who had their first kiss in a town called Parker.

She also suggested Chloe, among dozens of other names, for a client of Lebanese and French heritage who would be raising her little one in the US and was desperate for a name suitable across all three countries.

Humphrey has accumulated more than 26,000 followers on Instagram and a further 48,000 on TikTok.

On the latter video sharing platform she shares advice to her followers who post questions looking for answers.

In one of her popular more recent videos she suggested Adler, Briony, Carys, Fiona and Palmer, Pippa, Aniston, Elliette, Carling and Marlowe as a name for a little girl to be a sibling of a brother named Emory McKenzie.
