Inside That Spectacular Norwegian Hotel On ‘Succession’

Hoping to live like the Roys this summer, in the spectacular Juvet Landskapshotel in Norway? I’ve got some bad news for you — it’s already booked until mid-September. When episode five of Succession, the hit HBO series, aired a little over a week ago, the breathtaking property went from 400 or 500 daily views to 18,500 hits, nearly crashing the site.

Now the lucky folks who booked the “Landscape Hotel” will have to get to the property—it’s pretty remote. First, they’ll need a connection to fly into Ålesund Airport Vigra (AES), unless they have their own jet of course, with or without a tired interior. Then it’s a scenic 90-minute drive from Ålesund. Taxis are hard to come by and expensive— around $300, the hotel’s web site warns. Of course, you could take a helicopter.

If you missed out on Juvet, the good news is that Norway is packed with beautiful scenery and sleek modernist architecture. Here are some options that have all the high-design and jaw-dropping views, without the Roys and the Swede.

If the 90-minute drive doesn’t deter you, Kilsti Compact Lodge is not far from where Succession was shot. The four beautiful cottages have glass windows on the front, sides and ceiling, making it feel as if you were lying under the open sky. Overlooking Storfjorden, a stunning fjord surrounded by steep mountains, each cottage has a well-equipped kitchen, a fire pit (wood included) and shares a common sauna. What it doesn’t have is a restaurant, so you’ll want to pack in your own food.

The Bolder Sky Lodges is just as spectacular, but not quite as isolated. A 45-minute drive from the airport at Stavanger, the lodges hover high above Lysefjord, off the ground to have minimal impact on the environment with unspoiled views of the fjords. Sleek kitchens are set up for self-catering, which is the only option. Bonus —these cabins are near where Tom Cruise climbed the Pulpit Rock in Mission Impossible.

North of the Arctic Circle, Manshausen offers sea views on an island that is a 90-minute express boat ride from the airport at Bodo. These coastal cabins are built on stilts on the rocky shoreline, hanging over the sea. The restaurant on property serves three meals a day, focusing on what is local and seasonal—maybe seafood, lamb, reindeer or moose.

If you don’t have a private jet or helicopter, and prefer your scenery a bit more accessible, check out WonderINN, a set of cool mirrored cabins just a 40-minute drive south of Oslo airport. The reflective exterior allows guests to look out, but no one can look in to spy you cooking in the well-equipped kitchenette. The cozy patio with a barbecue and fire pit, and a jacuzzi offers an incredible view of the delta.
