Staycations still remain popular – but for those who want to up their game – they can now choose to rent out an entire castle for their winter break.

Candacraig is surrounded by the natural beauty of the Cairngorms National Park in the Highlands.

The 15th Century property was owned by ten-generations of the Anderson family before it was sold off to Sir Charles Forbes in 1886.

It was later redesigned by the same architect who enlarged Balmoral Castle, ‘Tutor Johnny’ Smith.

In more modern times, it was owned by the founder of The Body Shop, Anita Roddick, before Sir Billy moved in with his wife Pamela Stephenson in 1998.

The pair lived in the castle until 2014 – when they finally sold it on to its current owners Lynne and Marc Lino.

They said their future vision for the castle was to “preserve the house and surrounding grounds and properties in the most sustainable method possible”.

Candacraig can now be rented out by punters for holidays and retreats and can sleep up to 20 people in its 12 bedrooms, all with an en-suite.

There is even a “whisky library” offering a “leading selection of single malts collected over many years”.

Guests can take part in a range of on-site activities including a full-sized pool table, laser clay shooting, archery, horse riding, whisky tours and much more.
