Inside the secret world of CARGO flights

No passengers, lots of packages and on occasion some more unusual loads including horses and dead bodies. 

A fleet of TikTok creators have uploaded clips that shed light on the secret world of cargo flights. 

Pilot Peter Cappio, 33, who recently appeared on Season 20 of The Bachelorette, explains in one TikTok why he prefers flying cargo planes over commercial liners. 

He tells viewers: ‘For someone who’s flown passengers for over eight years and now has flown cargo for over two years, I’m here to give you the pros and cons.

In another TikTok, @unbridled_wild reveals how she traveled with six ‘once wild mustangs’ on a cargo plane. During the seven-hour flight to Germany, she stayed with them in a bid to keep them calm

When it comes to the kinds of things transported on cargo planes, it can be wide ranging.

Michael Cooney, who runs an Indianapolis-based marketing agency for funeral homes, reveals in a TikTok how human remains are often transported in cargo planes or placed in the cargo areas on passenger flights.

In the clip, he can be seen standing by the runway as he gets ready to ship off a client.

He explains: ‘Today I’m at the airport and we’re shipping human remains across the country.

‘I’m on my way to the cargo area of the airline to drop off the body.

Dallas-headquartered cargo airline Ameriflight uploaded a TikTok showing how pilots sometimes have to climb out of the cockpit window and use a ladder to get down safely 

‘After I drop off the remains at cargo, the body is then weighed and then scanned through security before boarding the flight.

‘The body travels on the bottom part of the plane so that means when you’re on a flight, there is a chance that there are human remains underneath you.’ 

In response to Cooney’s video, one viewer said that they used to work for an airline and they had human remains on ‘about a third of all the flights.’
